Getting to Samaná
How do I get to Samaná from the US, Canada or Europe?
Most international flights land in Santo Domingo (SDQ), about 3 h 15 min by road from Vista Mare, or Punta Cana (PUJ), about 5 h 15 min. El Catey · Samaná (AZS), about 1 h 25 min away, and Santiago · Cibao (STI), about 3 h 20 min, are the other options. Times are OpenStreetMap estimates without traffic; we can recommend a driver.
Do I need a car?
Not for the beaches and the pool at Vista Mare. For Samaná town (13 km by road) and day trips to Las Galeras, Playa Rincón or Las Terrenas, a rental car or a driver makes life easy; ask us and we will suggest one.
Whale season in Samaná
When is whale season, and when should I book?
The official season runs from 15 January to 31 March, with February and early March usually the liveliest. Whale-season weeks are the first to fill, so check dates on Airbnb or message us on WhatsApp as early as you can.
Can I see whales from the apartments?
Balcones del Oceano is our whale-watching pick, with a balcony over the palms to the bay; ask us about the view in season. The sure way to see whales is a licensed boat from Samaná harbour, from 15 January to 31 March. Sightings are wild and never guaranteed.

Do the hosts speak English?
Yes. Our hosts speak English and Spanish, and on Airbnb our main host answers 100% of messages, usually within an hour.
Is there a private beach?
Yes. Vista Mare Samaná has two private beaches at the foot of the hill, as well as an infinity pool and a restaurant.
Is there Wi-Fi?
